Playa Delfines is the beach that appears on every Cancún postcard. Near the southern end of the Hotel Zone, it is a long sweep of white sand facing the open Caribbean, with no hotels directly on the shore – and it is free and open to everyone.
The lookout and the Cancún sign
Above the beach, the El Mirador lookout offers a wide view of the coast, and the big, colourful Cancún letters are the city’s favourite photo spot.
Swimming safety
Playa Delfines faces the open sea, with no reef to break the waves, so the surf and currents can be strong. Lifeguards are on duty during the day: always check the flag colour and follow their whistles. On red-flag days, enjoy the view from the sand.
Tips
- Arrive early for a free palapa (shade hut) and parking.
- Bring water and snacks: there are few services on the beach itself.
- Combine it with the El Rey ruins and the Maya Museum, a few minutes away.
