Dunkirk is France’s northernmost city and a major port on the North Sea. Its name is linked forever to Operation Dynamo in 1940, when more than 300,000 Allied soldiers were evacuated from its beaches. Today it is a lively, friendly city with a long sandy beach, original museums and a carnival that takes over the streets every winter.
