Algeciras is the port city of the Strait of Gibraltar. With about 126,000 inhabitants, it faces the Rock of Gibraltar across the bay and the mountains of Morocco across the sea. It is one of the busiest ports in Spain, and for many travellers the starting point for a trip to Africa.
Why visit Algeciras
Most visitors come for the ferries to Morocco and Ceuta, but the city has a lively centre, good beaches to the south and easy access to Tarifa, Gibraltar and the cork-oak forests of Los Alcornocales. It is also the birthplace of flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía.
