Three days are enough to see Munich at an easy pace – with time for a beer garden every afternoon. This plan keeps each day in one part of the city.
Day 1: the Old Town
- Morning: start at Marienplatz and watch the Glockenspiel at 11:00. Climb the tower of St Peter’s Church (Alter Peter) for the view over the square.
- Midday: lunch at the Viktualienmarkt, the food market behind St Peter’s.
- Afternoon: visit the Frauenkirche, then the Residenz – the Treasury and the Antiquarium are the highlights – and rest in the Court Garden.
- Evening: dinner in a traditional beer hall in the Old Town.
Day 2: Nymphenburg and the museums
- Morning: take tram 17 to Nymphenburg Palace: the Gallery of Beauties, the royal coaches of the Marstallmuseum and a walk in the park.
- Afternoon: back in town, explore the Kunstareal in Maxvorstadt – the Alte Pinakothek for old masters, or Königsplatz and its classical buildings.
- Evening: a quieter evening in Maxvorstadt or Schwabing.

Day 3: the English Garden and the Isar
- Morning: walk through the English Garden from the Haus der Kunst to the Monopteros, then on to the Chinese Tower.
- Midday: lunch in the beer garden under the chestnut trees.
- Afternoon: the Deutsches Museum on its island in the Isar – science and technology for all ages.
- Evening: sunset by the river, then dinner around Gärtnerplatz.
Tips
- Check the season: during Oktoberfest the city is very busy and hotels fill early.
- Carry a little cash for beer gardens and market stalls.
- Swap days if it rains: museums on wet days, parks on sunny ones.
