The Sacré-Cœur crowns the highest hill in Paris. Its white domes, built between 1875 and 1914, dominate the skyline of Montmartre, and the steps in front of it offer one of the most famous views of the city.

What to see at Sacré-Cœur

The basilica

Inside, look up at the immense mosaic of Christ in the apse, one of the largest in the world. Entry to the basilica is free.

The dome

Climb the dome (around 300 steps) for a 360° panorama – on a clear day you can see far beyond the city.

The view from the steps

The steps and terraces below the basilica are a favourite spot for sunset.

Getting there

Take the metro to Anvers or Abbesses, then walk up through the gardens or take the Montmartre funicular, which climbs the hill in under two minutes.
