Three days in Barcelona are enough to fall for the city. This itinerary keeps the walking reasonable, groups the sights by area and leaves time for long lunches – the Barcelona way.

Before you go

Book the Sagrada Família and Park Güell online: both use timed tickets and often sell out. If you want to see inside Casa Batlló or Casa Milà, book those too.

Day 1: the Gothic Quarter, El Born and the sea

  • Morning: start at the cathedral and wander the Gothic Quarter: Plaça Sant Jaume, Plaça del Rei and the quiet Plaça Sant Felip Neri.
  • Midday: cross Via Laietana to El Born. Visit the Picasso Museum, then the soaring church of Santa Maria del Mar.
  • Afternoon: stroll through the Parc de la Ciutadella and down to the sea.
  • Evening: seafood and vermouth in Barceloneta, with a walk on the beach at sunset.

Day 2: Gaudí and the Eixample

  • Morning: the Sagrada Família – go early for calm, or late afternoon for the warm light through the stained glass.
  • Midday: walk or take the metro to Passeig de Gràcia for lunch.
  • Afternoon: Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, a few minutes apart on the same avenue.
  • Evening: dinner on one of the small squares of Gràcia.

Day 3: Park Güell, the markets and Montjuïc

  • Morning: Park Güell in the soft early light, with views over the whole city.
  • Midday: head down to La Rambla and the Boqueria market for a bite at a counter.
  • Afternoon: go up Montjuïc – by funicular and cable car – for gardens, the castle and views over the port.
  • Evening: tapas in Poble-sec, at the foot of the hill.

Tips

  • Walk in the morning, rest at midday: summer afternoons are hot.
  • Keep your bag closed on La Rambla and in the metro.
  • Eat late: many restaurants open for dinner around 8.30–9 pm.
