These five hotels accept dogs and go out of their way to make them comfortable, from palace hotels to a lively design address where dogs stay for free.

How we chose these hotels

We picked hotels that accept dogs as a matter of policy, not as an exception, and that are well placed for walks along the Seine or in a park. Rules on size, number and fees differ from one hotel to another and can change, so confirm them when you book – the details below are what the hotels and booking listings stated when we checked.

1. Le Meurice

The palace most devoted to its four-legged guests: dogs get their own name tag and amenities, and the Tuileries Garden is just across the street for morning walks – staff can even walk your dog on request.

Tips for Paris with a dog

  • Metro and RER: small dogs in a bag travel free; larger dogs need a lead, a muzzle and a reduced-fare ticket. Buses only take small dogs in a bag.
  • Cafés and restaurants: many terraces welcome dogs; inside, ask first.
  • Parks: many gardens allow dogs on a lead, but not all – check the signs at the gate.
  • Museums and monuments generally do not admit dogs, except assistance dogs: plan your visits to the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower accordingly.
  • Bring your dog’s documents: coming from another EU country you need the European pet passport and a valid rabies vaccination.
