Béziers is one of the oldest cities in France. Perched on a hill above the River Orb, crowned by its fortress-like cathedral, it looks out over vineyards towards the Mediterranean. It is also the birthplace of Pierre-Paul Riquet, the engineer who built the Canal du Midi – and the canal’s most spectacular site is right here.
Why visit Béziers
Béziers combines history, the Canal du Midi and Languedoc wine, with beaches less than half an hour away. Its lively summer feria and its markets give it a strong southern character.
